The Phillies’ 2011 season is over, but how about Ryan Howard’s 2012 season?
The slugger underwent an MRI Saturday on his injured left ankle and it confirmed the worst. Howard has a ruptured Achilles tendon in his left ankle and could miss the start of spring training, according to the Phillies. He’ll undergo surgery once the swelling goes down and could miss anywhere from six to nine months as he attempts to recover and rehab.
Howard, who has made the last out now in two straight playoff losses, inked a five-year, $125 million contract extension with the Phillies in April of 2010.
