Verdicts Issued in South Street Jewelry Store Robbery

Verdicts have been issued in the case of two robbers who left their four-year-old son behind while fleeing the Platinum and Ice jewelry store on South Street last year.

John Benson, 48, was convicted of attempted murder for slashing the store owner’s throat during the heist, as well as robbery, endangering the welfare of a child and related offenses. He faces a minimum of 10 to 20 years in prison.

Benson’s girlfriend, Sheakia Stubbs, 32, was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child, theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft.

The defendants will be sentenced September 21.
