Philly’s Vesper Dayclub is making a splash this weekend

Just in time for the red, white and blue filled weekend, Vesper Dayclub will be opening their doors, which will make them the only single adult swimming pool and outdoor dining oasis in the city to do so since social distancing went into place. 

According to the release, Glu Hospitality has been working around the clock to activate one of Philadelphia’s only pool options for the summer of 2020 — with deep cleaning, new safety procedures, a new reservation system, masks and social distancing, and other changes due to the global pandemic. The 30,000 gallon heated saltwater pool and adjacent bungalows, daybeds and outdoor dining tables will offer a unique opportunity for adults 21 and up who may be staying back from the shore to enjoy local stay-cation options. The largest change this year is a much more relaxed and safe vibe that is more like a resort than a day club.

“Vesper Dayclub is back in time for Independence Day Weekend as a great option to kick-off your summer right here in the city,” said co-owner Derek Gibbons, of Glu Hospitality in a statement. “We have spent a lot of time and attention upgrading and adding safety and health protocols to ensure the health and well being of our staff and our guests. We want to offer a laid back and lower key option for this year — and are opting for less of a day club party vibe and more of a safe, relaxing and low-key swimming and dining experience. During this global pandemic, Vesper Dayclub is a unique opportunity for those that love the water but are staying local and keeping away from the crowds at the shore.” 

For those who have hit up the Dayclub in the past, there are a few changes. Firstly, there will be no public club-style parties and no nighttime entertainment to ensure that everyone stays safe and healthy. However, there may be plans down the line to have background-only music added, but those plans are still pending and may be subject to change. Also, following in the footsteps of most restaurants and establishments, Vesper will only be operating at about 20% capacity. The owners did have the choice of operating at 50% capacity but they chose to reduce the percentage to really ensure that this opening is one that can stick to health and safety guidelines. To help elevate that ideology, guests will also be required to wear masks when entering the establishment or leaving their table to walk around, temperatures will be taken, orders must be made through servers only and more guidelines will be put in place. 

Now, on to the fun stuff. 

Aside from getting to swim in one of the city’s only open pools this summer, guests who head to Vesper Dayclub will also get to enjoy some delicious pool-side food and beverages. The menu will range with a variety of options from Chef Chino Chang with highlighted choices including a few laid-back favorites such as a selection of flatbreads fired in a full pizza oven, chicken tenders, guacamole and chips, fruit bowls, parfaits, sliders, hot dogs, hamburgers and other summertime favorites. 

On the spirited side of things, Philadelphians can pair their pool-side feast with a selection of cold beers, frozen and non-frozen summer cocktails, seltzers, cider, typical bar staples and much more. 

According to the release, reservations to use the pool and dining options are a must for 2020 — any member can make a reservation. Season pass memberships are $35 and includes free weekday entry with your reservations, discounted cover on the weekend, ability to bring guests for a discounted price and other perks. Season pass members pay a $10 cover charge on weekends. Guests with members are $10 per weekdays and $20 per weekend days. Daybeds, loungers and bungalows are available for reservations, with pricing varying based on reservations and occupancy. Pricing also is different on weekdays, weekends and holidays.
