The footage, recently shown in court, shows Jesse Olivieri, a 31-year-old man from Ashland, Pennsylvania, walking toward the White House on May 20 carrying a silver handgun. After repeatedly disobeying commands from agents to drop his weapon, officers shot Olivieri once near a security checkpoint, and arrested him.

“He was carrying a gun — a silver gun in clear sight — walked through the fence line,” Larry Samples, who witnessed the shootingsouthwest of the White House, toldNBC Newsin May.

“They immediately tried to stop him and came up to him,” Samples said. “[Authorities] yelled multiple times ‘stop, stop, stop.’ He kept ignoring them.”

Olivieri was carrying a silver .22-caliber Ruger handgun, officials said.

After he was shot, the Secret Service said Olivieri told an officer that he “came here to shoot people.”

Olivieriappeared in a wheelchair in federal court Monday, his lawyer requesting he be released to home detention because he had no criminal record and didn’t point his weapon at anyone.

Judge Michael Harvey said Olivieri was a “danger to both himself and the community,”NBC Newsreported.

The judge said Olivieri’s actions were a “crime of violence involving law enforcement officers whose job it is to protect the perimeter of the White House.”

Olivieri is charged with resisting officers with a dangerous weapon, an offense that carries up to 20 years in prison.
