VIDEO: Man named ‘Darnell Outlaw’ arrested for alleged McDonald’s robbery in Mayfair

A man named Darnell Outlaw was arrested for allegedly robbing a McDonald’s in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia shortly after 5 a.m. on August 29, police announced last week.

Investigators said that Outlaw, 25, was caught on surveillance video entering the McDonald’s on the 2900 block of Cottman Avenue, where he allegedly purchased and ate food while waiting for a second man, who is still unidentified, to come inside. Investigators said the second suspect walked into the restaurant’s bathroom, then exited a short time later armed with a black handgun.

According to authorities, the unidentified suspect then jumped behind the counter, brandishing the gun, and Outlaw allegedly followed suit, putting his hood up joining the man. Investigators said the two men ordered the shift supervisor to open the safe and made away with $10,000.

Outlaw’s girlfriend, Janine Dunn, 26, was allegedly waiting nearby in a dark-colored car and acted as a getaway driver. Dunn was also arrested for her alleged involvement in the crime and is charged with assault, robbery, conspiracy and theft alongside Outlaw, who is listed as a joined codefendant on court records. Outlaw is also charged with firearms offenses.

Dunn was arraigned on Sept. 21 and is currently jailed at Riverside Correctional Facility in lieu of 10 percent of $100,000 bail. Outlaw was arraigned on Sept. 22 and is currently jailed at the
Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in lieu of 10 percent of $100,000
bail.

In two additional cases brought against Outlaw after he was taken into custody, he is also charged with
marijuana and controlled substance possession for drugs allegedly found at the time of his arrest, as well as with violating an order of protection, making terroristic threats, criminal mischief, simple assault and weapons offenses for an alleged incident on May 5. Bail was set at 10 percent of $50,000 in each of the two cases, according to court documents.

As his name may suggest, the arrest was not Outlaw’s first encounter with police. He was in 2006 convicted of criminal conspiracy and manufacturing,
delivering or possessing narcotics with the intent to manufacture or
deliver and was sentenced to two years of probation. He was arrested in 2008 for allegedly violating that probation.

Outlaw was in 2010 convicted of marijuana possession and admitted to the Small Amount of Marijuana diversionary program, but a bench warrant was issued for his arrest in April of 2011 for allegedly failing to complete the sentence. He was found guilty of the initial offense in July of last year.

Dunn also has a criminal history – she pleaded guilty in 2008 to criminal conspiracy by engaging in forgery, theft and writing bad checks for an alleged incident in August of 2006 and was sentenced to four years of probation.

Authorities are still asking for the public’s help in identifying the second suspect wanted in the McDonald’s robbery, described as a six-foot-tall black male, about 20 years old, wearing a blue hood, blue pants and gloves and armed with a black and silver handgun.
