It will have been an entire week without a basketball game for Villanova when the team takes on Milwaukee in Buffalo as the nightcap Thursday in the NCAA Tournament.
Villanova is one of four teams ranked in the top 20 both offensively and defensively in college basketball. The other three are Louisville, Florida and Wichita State.
In recent history, teams with a balanced attack on both sides of the ball fare better than teams dominant on just one side.
Once ranked in the top five in the nation, the Wildcats have a tough matchup awaiting if they advance to the third round, either UConn or St. Joseph’s. Both familiar foes.
“It’s pretty crazy to think about,” Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono told the media after the brackets were revealed Sunday. “UConn and St. Joe’s? We have to take it one game at a time. But that would be cool if we play each other.”
But first they have to tame a mature and talented Milwaukee squad to move on.
