Shots were fired and two vehicles crashed early Saturday morning on I-95 Northbound between Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
When troopers arrived at the scene, at around 2:30 a.m., they found a 1984 Fort Mustang and a 2009 Acura TL that had both been riddled with bullets and damage from a collision, authorities said.
The driver of the Mustang, a 21-year-old man, was shot in the head and hospitalized, said state police, who did not provide information about the conditions of the victims. A passenger in the car was being treated for crash-related injuries, investigators added.
A 26-year-old man, who was behind the wheel of the Acura, was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper left leg, according to state police.
Detectives believe a third vehicle was involved in the incident and fled the scene. I-95 North was shut down for several hours while authorities investigated the shooting.
