1 killed, 4 injured in weekend shootings across Philadelphia

A man was killed and four others were wounded in separate shootings over the weekend, in addition to the mass shooting in Strawberry Mansion that left two dead and four injured.

Just before 10 p.m. Saturday, officers noticed a van speeding toward the entrance to Einstein Medical Center’s emergency room, authorities said. Two men were taking a third man to the hospital following a shooting, according to police.

Investigators said the 30-year-old victim was shot in his face and neck by two masked suspects on the 1500 block of Rockland Street in Logan. The motive in the case was not immediately clear, and no arrests were made.

At around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, a 66-year-old man was shot multiple times inside a corner store on the 6000 block of W. Passyunk Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia, police said. He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition with wounds to his chest, thigh and armpit. The PPD did not provide a possible motive in the shooting Sunday.

A 32-year-old man walked into the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania just before 10 a.m. Sunday after he was shot in his lower right leg, authorities said. Police believe the shots were fired near the corner of 42nd Street and Fairmount Avenue in Powelton. The victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Earlier, at around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man was hospitalized after he was shot on the 5400 block of Howland Street in the Crescentville section of Northeast Philadelphia, according to police. He was listed in stable condition at Einstein.

Detectives, from an initial investigation, believe a group of men confronted the victim in the back of a house on the block. The shooting possibly stemmed from an earlier dispute between the man and a female acquaintance, investigators said.

An argument led to a shooting just after 8:15 p.m. Saturday on the 4200 block of N. 17th Street in Nicetown, authorities said. Police said a 30-year-old man was shot several times and taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was expected to survive.

He and the shooter were engaged in a brief verbal dispute, followed by a physical altercation, investigators said. That’s when the suspect opened fire, according to police.
