2 killed, 9 wounded in weekend shootings in Philadelphia

Two men were killed and nine other people were wounded in shootings over the weekend in Philadelphia.

On Sunday, at around noon, a 26-year-old man was shot in the head on the 1500 block of 68th Avenue in West Oak Lane, authorities said. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Officers who responded to the shooting apprehended two men and recovered a gun, but no additional information was released Sunday.

In East Germantown, gunfire erupted just after 5:45 p.m. Saturday — killing one man and injuring another — on the 5500 block of Devon Street, according to police.

Investigators said an 18-year-old man who had been shot in the head and shoulder died a short time later at Einstein Medical Center. The other victim, a 25-year-old man, was shot twice in the back and once in the arm. He is expected to survive.

Police did not report any arrests in the immediate aftermath of the killing.

Two people were also struck when shots were fired just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the 300 block of E. Westmoreland Street in Kensington, authorities said.

A 22-year-old woman was hit in the arm, and a 17-year-old girl sustained a graze wound to the back of her head, police said. Both victims were later in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.

Also in Kensington, at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, someone shot a 27-year-old woman in the right leg on the 2900 block of E Street, investigators said. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On Saturday, a 19-year-old man walked into the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after being shot in the right forearm at around 10:15 p.m. near 55th and Market streets in West Philadelphia, authorities said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

A 37-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot several times at around 2:45 p.m. Saturday on the 1700 block of N. Wilton Street in the Wynnefield Heights neighborhood, police said.

Less than an hour earlier, at around 2 p.m., a 28-year-old man was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center after being shot five times on the 400 block of N. Daggett Street in West Philadelphia, authorities said. He was in critical condition following the shooting.

Early Saturday morning, at around 1:45 a.m., a 33-year-old woman was shot in the head by someone she knew inside a house on the 4100 block of Cambridge Street in West Philadelphia, according to investigators.

She was taken to Penn Presbyterian and is expected to survive. Police said the shooter was not immediately arrested.

About a half an hour earlier, in North Philadelphia, a 24-year-old man was shot seven times on the 2400 block of Allegheny Avenue, authorities said. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
