Where to brunch this weekend

Dig in to brunch at Garces Trading Company.

Here’s to lunkfast! No? OK, fine, we’ll stick with “brunch” — and we’ll eat it at these spots.

Garces Trading Company
1111 Locust St., 215-574-1099

Now that Jose Garces has a list of acclaimed local restaurants, plus spots in Atlantic City and, of course, the much-buzzed-about Volver opening in the Kimmel Center April 16, can we mention him without the “he’s an Iron Chef” introduction? Discuss amongst yourselves over the new brunch offerings at Garces Trading Company, served Saturdays and Sundays. For $22, get coffee or tea, a basket of housemade pastries, and two courses. Start with the pumpkin seed granola with Greek yogurt, then dig into the buttermilk pancakes with crème Chantilly and hazelnuts.

Mt. Airy Brunch Sessions
April 5 and 6
GoMtAiry.com

“Brunch sessions” makes us think we’d better show up with an empty stomach and full appetite. This Saturday and Sunday, eight Mt. Airy restaurants — Avenida, Earth Bread + Brewery, Geechee Girl Rice Cafe, Goat Hollow, Jyoti Indian Bistro, Little Jimmie’s Bakery Café, Wine Thief Bistro and Trolley Car Diner — are offering elaborate brunches with starters, entrées, sides and coffee or tea for just $16. We’re debating between the decadent-sounding bread pudding French toast at Geechee Girl (6825 Germantown Ave.), the corned beef hash flatbread with roasted onions and fried egg at Earth Bread and Brewery (7136 Germantown Ave.), or the traditional kicharee stew at Jyoti (7220 Germantown Ave). A few of the spots are open Saturday or Sunday, not both, so check the website before you head over.

City Tap House
April 6
3925 Walnut St., 215-662-0105

Kick off the “Game of Thrones” season with Brunch of Thrones at City Tap House. All three Ommegang “GOT”-inspired beers will be tapped and poured alongside dishes designed with the TV show in mind. If you make a reservation, you’ll get an Ommegang “GOT” challis to take home. Special dishes include the Flea Bottom Bowl of Brown, a country-fried steak with brown gravy, potato hash and fried egg, and Arya’s lemon Cakes, lemon pancakes with berry compote and honey-thyme butter. For $15, get a flight of the beers plus an extra Ommegang beer of your choice. Come thirsty.
