Where to have a fiesta on Cinco de Mayo

Distrito is celebrating Cinco de Mayo all day.

After a drawn-out winter and chilly spring, we’re ready for a mean, south of the border drink. Luckily for us, Cinco de Mayo is almost here, which is the perfect excuse for margarita overload on a Sunday night. We scouted around town and found the big parties and the little shindigs to help you get festive.

Distrito
This will be an all-day affair, but we have faith that you’re up for the challenge. Start your day the way nature intended: with brunch. Stick around for the “Beats and Street Eats” which basically translates into a DJ, light fare for munching, and drinks specials.

El Vez
Leave it to this wonderfully weird, glitter-encrusted Stephen Starr joint to throw a neighborhood block party. The Midtown Village corner spot is known for expert margaritas (have you tasted the blood orange version?) and huge portions of creamy guac. Toast to Cinco de Mayo with Corona and Modelo specials, then dance in the street while “El Vez,” aka “The Mexican Elvis,” croons.

Piazza at Schmidts
Wrap up a weekend of LGBTQ fun with the Equality Forum’s closing party, SundayOUT! at the Piazza. Expect street vendors, stage performances, and partying at the core of it, and mechanical bull rides over at PYT.

Cantina Dos Segundos
While you’re over at the Piazza, you might want to take a minute to escape the crowd. Head just across the street to chow down on nachos and slurp on delicious frozen drinks. We recommend the watermelon margarita. Actually, we recommend most margaritas.

Interstate Drafthouse
Last year’s Cinco de Mayo pig roast was a success, so the Fishtown bar is bringing it back. Naturally, you’ll find the standard Mexican canned beer and margarita specials, but this backyard party will also feature a giant, roasted pig. Now that’s the true sign of celebration.
