An Atlantic City woman has been pegged as the alleged pimp in a prostitution ring that included two high school students.
Alicia Stewart, 25, of the Waterside Building in Atlantic City, was busted Saturday by a federal task force aimed at preventing prostitution and human trafficking following a monthlong investigation. Authorities said Stewart was a pimp for several females, including two Atlantic City High School students, and is charged with human trafficking and promoting prostitution. She could face additional charges.
“Anybody who brings juveniles into the field of prostitution is going to be charged with trafficking,” said Sheriff Frank Balles. “Depending on how the investigation goes, she could be a bigger fish.”
Stewart, who went by the name Toya, allegedly operated in and around the Atlantic City casinos. Since being formed in October, the South Jersey Regional Innocence Lost Task Force has made about 100 arrests, Balles said. Stewart is the first to be charged with human trafficking.
The task force is comprised of the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office; the Atlantic City Police Department; Division of Youth and Family Services; New Jersey State Police, Division of Gaming Enforcement; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
