A 32-year-old woman is facing murder charges after a double stabbing on New Year’s Eve in South Philadelphia left one woman dead and another hospitalized.

Just after 11 p.m. Sunday, Victoria Lynn Dicesare, 36, and another woman, also 36, arrived at Methodist Hospital after they were stabbed inside a house on the 2700 block of S. Sheridan Street, authorities said.

Dicseare, who lived in Northeast Philadelphia, suffered a wound to her right thigh and died at around 11:45 p.m., according to police.

Investigators said the stabbing stemmed from an argument. Rachel Pisano, of South Philadelphia, was charged Tuesday with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and other crimes.

Pisano was denied bail and is currently behind bars at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, according to court documents. The defender’s association, which is representing her, did not respond to a request for comment.

Dicesare’s killing appears to have been the final murder of 2023. Philadelphia ended the year with 410 homicides, more than 100 fewer deaths than occurred in 2022, according to PPD data. However, the number is still higher than the totals for every year between 2007 and 2019.
