An altercation inside a Northeast Philadelphia house ended with one woman dead and another hospitalized, police said.

Investigators believe the fight was started by a 21-year-old woman who entered a property on the 1200 block of Elbridge Street in Oxford Circle just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

She stabbed a 38-year-old woman once in the chest, and that woman, in turn, stabbed the 21-year-old three times in the chest and once in the back, police said. The younger woman died a short time later at Einstein Medical Center.

Authorities said the 38-year-old is expected to survive. She is being held in police custody. Detectives say the two women knew each other, but police have not described the nature of their relationship.

On Thursday, a 32-year-old man was gunned down in broad daylight in Germantown.

Police said he sustained wounds to his left arm, shoulder and back. No arrests have been made, and officers did not recover a weapon at the scene.
