A South Philadelphia woman has a valuable souvenir from New York City – a $125,000 settlement with the city after being refused insulin during an October arrest for smoking a joint.
Jaime Rutkowski, 30, a Type-1 diabetic, was at a restaurant on the Lower East Side when she and a friend were arrested by plainclothes officers. According to documents filed in the case, Rutkowski was denied access to her confiscated glucose kit and insulin despite repeated requests until her sugar level was more than three times a normal level.
