The month of March marks the first day of spring, the anticipated arrival of daylight savings time, and of course, International Women’s Day — March 8 — and Women’s History Month. And if you’re looking to celebrate the latter, we’ve rounded up plenty of opportunities around the City of Sisterly Love.
Huda and Aaji’s have found a tasty way to celebrate Women’s History Month in Philly. Poorva and Rajus Korde from Aaji’s and Chef Yehuda Sichel from Huda have partnered up to collaborate on a special sandwich while raising money for Philadelphia’s Sisterly Love Collective.
As a release notes, from Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, Huda will be offering a special sandwich with breaded fluke, Aaji’s Spicy Lonsa, pickled daikon, lettuce, and garlic aioli on a toasted milk bun. The sandwich costs $15, and will be available during lunch and dinner at Huda.

This WHM activation is from another partnership, this time from Hyatt Centric Center City Philadelphia and InLiquid, a female-founded and led nonprofit arts organization. The venues have merged to showcase a new exhibit from local artist Jasmine Alleger, with the official kick-off set for this Thursday, March 7, with a “Meet the Maker” opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
The showcase includes two separate bodies of Alleger’s work: The first, titled ‘A Month of Breakfast,’ is a collection of paintings depicting every breakfast Alleger had in August 2012, while ‘Rock N’ Roll Philadelphia’ is a pandemic-rooted project documenting lockdown-shuttered independent music venues in Philly. As a release notes, the reception is open to the public and free to attend, and the exhibit will be on display through the end of April.

This week marked the kick-off for Women’s Way Wednesdays at Stratus Rooftop Lounge, a weekly series that will be running at the sky-high spot through the end of the month. The event features a different chef every Wednesday presenting a selection of hors d’oeuvres, in addition to live music, pay-as-you-go craft cocktails, local beer and wine.
Following the weekly happy hour-style receptions on March 13 and 20, the final Women’s Way Wednesdays event will take place on Wednesday, March 27, and will be presented as a collaborative cocktail soirée led by the Sisterly Love Collective. The final event will boast an array of small bites and sips from local female-fronted businesses including Ann Karlen from Third Wheel Cheese, Carolyn Nguyen from Revolution Taco, Thanh Nguyen from Gabriella’s Vietnam, Attic Brewing Company, Love City Brewing Company and more.

On Monday, March 18, Eastern State Penitentiary will host a new program for Women’s History Month. Titled ‘Women Behind Bars: Why is Incarceration of Women on the Rise?’ the event sheds light on the rapid increase of female imprisonment in the United States, which is surpassing global rates, a release notes.
The free event will take place on Zoom at 11 a.m. and will also feature Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site’s President and CEO Dr. Kerry Sautner, and scholars Jen Manion and Michelle Daniel Jones.
To celebrate Women’s History Month in Philly, locals can head to Panorama wine bar in the Penn’s View Hotel to sip on some vino from woman-owned wineries around the world.
The venue has created a flight of pours for the month of March, but there’s also a Sensible Sips N/A Wine and Cocktail event with Drew Davis of Gem Life + Bar on Thursday, March 14 ($50) and a “Female Winemakers & Women-Owned Wineries” class lead by National Director of Wine for the Jackson Family Estates, Mollie Battenhouse, on Sunday, March 24 ($45.) This Sunday, March 10, Philadelphians can head to The Logan Hotel for their annual Sister Sunday event. This free activation features 30+ women-owned businesses selling unique candles, women’s and kid’s clothing, natural skincare, tarot readings, jewelry, tote bags and more.
The vendors will be set up in the hotel’s outdoor courtyard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., along with live music, bites, beer, wine, signature drinks and dishes from Urban Farmer, a flower bouquet bar, 2-minute high fashion drawings, plus an Underground Spa pop-up in the lobby for visitors to enjoy.
