The Michael Vick factor netted another high-profile free agent.
Ronnie Brown was all smiles yesterday as he reported to Lehigh, with a green Eagles visor planted firmly on his head. When the topic of Vick came up, the smile grew even wider.
“I’m very excited,” Brown said. “You know, I think you can see from my smile when you ask me the question about Mike and the things that he brings as a football player, you know … talent-wise.”
Of course, just knowing who the starting quarterback is was another huge selling point.
“One of things I was looking for in this situation was the stability of the quarterbacks here and everybody knows who it is,” Brown said. “And it’s not a knock on Miami, but since I’ve been there I played with maybe 12 or 13 guys at that position.”
Brown hinted that he had more lucrative offers on the table, but chose the Eagles because the organization — with its flurry of moves — seemed to put winning first. And splitting carries with incumbent tailback LeSean McCoy won’t be an issue. He shared a backfield with Carnell Williams at Auburn and then with Ricky Williams in Miami.
“I think just the way that things have gone in the NFL, it’s kind of progressed to two backs and being able to utilize two different guys because you try to stay healthy for the long haul — which is trying to get to the postseason,” Brown said.
