1 killed, 5 injured in overnight shootings

Six people were shot Sunday night into Monday morning, including a man who was gunned down on the streets in Kensington.

Police said the man, described as in his mid-30s, died shortly after being shot multiple times in the upper body just before 12:30 a.m. Monday on the 2500 block of Kensington Avenue. Investigators did not release further information.

On Sunday night, someone fired at police officers who were loading a shooting victim into their cruiser, according to authorities.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m. on the 1600 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue, near Temple University’s main campus in North Philadelphia. Police responded to a report of gunshots and found a 19-year-old man who had been shot in the chest.

When the shots rang out, the officers took cover and did not return fire, police said. They searched the area but did not find the shooter, according to investigators.

The victim of the original shooting was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

A 29-year-old woman was hit in the arm and leg when someone opened fire just before 4:15 a.m. Monday on the 5700 block of Chew Avenue in East Germantown, police said. She was later listed in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center.

Investigators said the woman was not cooperating with detectives.

Authorities said a 15-year-old boy was shot in the groin just before 2:45 a.m. Monday inside a house on the 5000 block of Keyser Street in Germantown. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

In North Philadelphia, a 39-year-old man was shot in the right thigh, forearm and torso just before 1:30 a.m. Monday in front of Max’s Steaks on Germantown Avenue, police said. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized after being shot between her shoulder and neck just before 9:45 p.m. Sunday on the 1000 block of S. 53rd Street in the Kingsessing section of Southwest Philadelphia.

She is expected to physically recover, according to authorities.

A total of 15 people were wounded in shootings Saturday and Sunday, and three were killed — among them, a 10-year-old boy who reportedly shot himself in the head accidentally after finding an unsecured gun.

The incident occurred Saturday evening inside a house on the 1400 block of W. Pacific Street in North Philadelphia, investigators said. He was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where he died just before 6:45 p.m.

“Another one of our precious children has died as the result of gunfire,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said in a statement. “As a community, we must all strive to do better in keeping guns out of the hands of our kids.”

Nasir Roberson, 18, died after being shot early Sunday morning on the 2800 block of Memphis Street in Kensington, authorities said.

And 24-year-old Quidare Robinson was killed in a shooting Saturday night on the 1700 block of S. 5th Street in South Philadelphia, blocks from where he lived, according to police.

No arrests have been reported in connection with any of the shootings.
