2 killed, 6 wounded in shootings

Shootings left two men dead and six other people hospitalized Tuesday night and early Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Authorities said 37-year-old Andre Lyles died after he was shot in the head at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday inside the Family Dollar store near 58th Street and Baltimore Avenue in West Philadelphia.

Earlier, at around 7:30 p.m., a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest was dropped off at a fire station at 63rd Street and Lancaster Avenue in Overbrook, police said.

Medics took him to Lankenau Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been released.

Investigators said the shooting occurred on the 5400 block of Thompson Street in West Philadelphia. Detectives found a gun and held a car for further investigation, according to police.

No arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of either killing.

On Wednesday, just after 12:15 a.m., a 43-year-old man showed up to Temple University Hospital after he was shot multiple times in his right shoulder at 5th Street and Lehigh Avenue in Fairhill, authorities said. He is expected to survive.

An 18-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his right hand walked into Temple at around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, investigators said. Police said the location of the shooting is unknown. The victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Two teenagers were struck when shots were fired at around 8 p.m. Tuesday on the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue in the Mill Creek area of West Philadelphia, according to authorities.

Police said a 17-year-old boy was shot twice in his left leg, and an 18-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. Both were hospitalized at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition. Detectives were questioning three men in the aftermath of the shooting, investigators said.

A man was in critical condition after he was shot once in his chest at around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday on the 5400 block of Master Street in West Philadelphia, authorities said. Police did not provide his age.

In North Philadelphia, someone shot a 22-year-old man in his calf and buttocks at around 7 p.m. Tuesday on the 1700 block of N. Gratz Street, according to investigators. He was transported to Jefferson University Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
