Director Blanka Zizka continues to interpret the plays of Sarah Ruhl for Philadelphia audiences. “In the Next Room” received a Tony nomination for best new play in 2010. Set in the 1800s, the narrative chronicles the frustrations, comedy, ignorance and oppression surrounding sex in the 19th-century.

Jaqueline Goldfinger, literary manager for the Philadelphia Theatre Company, now has a play of her own ready for the stage. Azuka Theatre’s Allison Heishman directs this philosophical who-done-it, where the employees of a little diner are hiding a grisly truth.

Philly’s own British/Irish-only theater company is attempting their most daring show to date. With an experimental staging at the expansive Broad Street Ministries, director Tom Reing attempts to bring Michael West’s stylistic Dublin tale to life. The year is 1904, and the Irish National Theatre is looking to regain its former glory with a performance for the ages.

Legendary local actor Harry Philibosian stars in Noah Haidle’s 2008 play. Originally produced at Lincoln Center in New York, “Saturn” peeks in on a man’s life at 28, 58 and 88 — tracing the great love of his life. Brenna Geffers directs.
