Iverson contract on the table

The icon is almost back.

Just three years after an ugly divorce, the Sixers offered Allen Iverson a one-year contract yesterday worth $1.3 million, the veterans’ minimum for a player with at least 10 seasons of NBA experience.

The franchise is reportedly awaiting a response from Iverson’s agent, Leon Rose.

The contract would be guaranteed for the remainder of the season, but would give the Sixers the option to cut ties with Iverson by Jan. 10, if the team felt the reunion wasn’t working out.

If the 34-year-old signs, he is expected to make his debut Monday night at the Wachovia Center against the Nuggets — the team he was originally traded to. But Denver shipped Iverson to Detroit, where he complained about his role. He was a free agent for the majority of the summer before Memphis took a chance on him. That experiment lasted three games before an unhappy Iverson bailed on the team.

Iverson was in talks with the Knicks two weeks ago, but the team decided not to take minutes away from their young players.
