The puck drops on the 2021-22 NHL season on Tuesday night as the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning faces the Pittsburgh Penguins before the expansion Seattle Kraken takes the ice for the first time ever against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Both the Lightning and Golden Knights are within oddsmakers’ top-five of teams that could potentially win the Stanley Cup this season, though the Colorado Avalanche are the favorites.
When it comes to the Philadelphia Flyers, their odds are in the middle of the pack at +4000 — which just so happens to be the same as the Kraken’s.
But their division doesn’t have much representation at the very top. The New York Islanders, who made the Stanley Cup semifinals in two consecutive years, have the sixth-best odds while a rebuilding Rangers team — who many believe won’t even make the playoffs — have the ninth-best odds to win it all this season. That includes better odds than the Pittsburgh Penguins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Washington Capitals; all of whom should have better seasons than the Blueshirts.
