The mustached part of Hall & Oates, one-time Philly native John Oates, revealed two things over the weekend: First is that he signed a book deal with St. Martin’s Press for a detailed memoir. The other, which he told www.vanyaland.com is how much he hates the name “Hall & Oates.”

Fishtown’s Mycopolitan Mushroom Co. is Philly’s first mushroom farm, growing gourmet mushroom varieties using solely sustainable methods. They’ll host a five-course dinner at their neighborhood restaurant, Kensington Quarters, on April 30 with KQ chef Damon Menapace.

If you want a food festival where you do more than stuff your face, Taste of the Nation, May 3 at the Loews Hotel at 12th and Market, is the ticket. Creekstone Farms Beef consultant/chef David Katz will host a food trivia quiz show for competing chefs during the event, while you dine on fine fare from restaurant like Aldine and Fork and drink with bartenders from Olde Bar and Vesper. The event supports No Kid Hungry, part of the anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength.

Buddy Valastro from TLC Network’s “Cake Boss” spent Monday hosting a bake sale outside Carlo’s Bake Shop at 21st and Walnut, with proceeds going to No Kid Hungry.

Speaking of TLC, they’ll host a network block party with Kate Gosselin, of “Kate Plus Eight,” the Duggar family of “19 Kids and Counting” and more at Penn’s Landing’s Great Plaza on May 30.

Philadelphia Futures “Get In the Game” Thursday event for low-income college students at the newly opened South Bowl was hosted by Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz and got a visit from Phillies’ chairman David Montgomery.

Philadelphia Eagles Brandon Graham and team mascot Swoop stopped at Greenfield Elementary School in Center City for the 15th annual Comcast Cares Day.
