Police in a Montgomery County town are on the trail of a thief who walked into a pet store andstole a snake valued at $375 out of its terrarium.
Surveillance footage shows a thief enteringNatural Pet Store on Dekalb Pike in East Norriton Township on Saturday afternoon, clipping open a cage and removing a 4-foot-longyellow diamond python snake, CBS3reported.
The theft occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, while the store was open. The suspect, who was with an accomplice, walked up to the snake’s glass case, clipped the lock, took the reptile out and placed it in his bag before leaving, 6ABC said.
Police are asking for the public’s help if they have any information regarding the theft. It is unclear if the thief wants to sell the snake or is just an amateur herpetologist who was looking for a new pet.
While diamond pythons are not venomous, they can be dangerous to humans, as they can inflict a powerful bite and sometimes leave their teeth in the flesh of their victim, according to wildlife experts.
