Kathleen Kane criminal trial expected to start Monday

Jury selection is slated to begin Monday in the criminal trial of Attorney General Kathleen Kane after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court refused to intervene in the case.

Kaneis charged with perjury, obstruction, official oppressionand other crimes, according to Philly.com, after leaking grand jury material and lying about it under oath. The state’s highest courtreportedly denied her emergency petition to have those charges dropped.

Her claim hinged on the grand jury that investigated her, arguing that it was unlawful and unconstitutional, The Associated Press reported. She also reportedly argued that the special prosecutor appointed to investigate the case and run the grand jury did not have the authority to do so.

Kane, a Democrat, is not running for a second term as attorney general.
