Cirque du Soleil has graced stages (and ice rinks) in Philly before, but never at The Met. This weekend, that’s about to change.
‘Twas the Night Before… by Cirque du Soleil’ is a Christmas-themed show playing at the venue, inspired “by the joy of giving and the wonder of the holiday season.” This showcase will only play in the city for a limited time (Dec. 19 to 29), with tickets currently on sale for all performances.
The holiday-inspired show is based on the classic poem ‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’ by Clement Clarke Moore. In the poem, a jaded young girl rediscovers the magic from Christmas, and some of the lines from Moore’s work will also find their way weaved onto stage with Cirque.
The official show description reads: “For years, Isabella and her father have read ‘A Visit from Saint Nicholas’ together. However, this year Isabella feels like she’s outgrown the family tradition. But then the magic of the poem comes to life, and Isabella and her father are unexpectedly separated by a snowstorm that sends them on a fantastical journey. In a winter wonderland inspired by the poem, they discover whimsical characters, acrobats, children and reindeer who reunite father and daughter in the holiday spirit.”
The show was conceived and is directed by Cirque du Soleil Senior Artistic Director James Hadley, a 25-year veteran of circus productions and live theater. The Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group itself also brings four decades of unique showcases under its belt with multimedia productions, immersive experiences, and special events.
As a release notes, since its creation in 1984, more than 400 million people have caught different shows on 6 continents and 86 countries. The Canadian company now employs more than 4000 employees, including 1200 artists from 80 different nationalities.
Currently, Cirque is running a holiday and a family special for tickets to ‘Twas the Night Before.’ The holiday offer runs for 25% off, while the family package gets you a bundle of four tickets for a reduced price. Tickets (various prices) are available to purchase online.
