Officer Christopher Dorman, 25, was responding to a report of a drug deal in a Folcroft, Delaware County, apartment complexaround 10 a.m. Friday. Dorman was the first officer on the scene, and approached the suspect, who drew his weapon and fired, striking Dorman seven times, the Delaware County Times reported.

The suspect, identified as Donte Brooks Island, then opened fire on a second officer. He’s charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and related offenses, according to 6ABC.

Dorman was struck once in the face, four times in the chest, once in the groin and once in the leg. Police said the officer was wearing his bullet proof vest, which likely saved his life. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and was set to be released Monday.
