Eagles Notebook: Birds trade up, grab Fletcher Cox

They got their man.

The Eagles traded up three spots, sending the No. 15 pick plus a fourth-rounder and sixth-rounder to Seattle, and grabbed Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox.

For the past several weeks, speculation has run rampant that the Birds were highly interested in the 6-foot-4, 305-pounder. When Roger Goodell walked to the podium to announce the No. 12 pick, it was a foregone conclusion: Fletcher Cox.

Cox, an inside/outside player, should thrive in Jim Washburn’s Wide-9 scheme and form a formidable tackle duo with Cullen Jenkins. Both players can collapse the pocket and rush the quarterback. Several experts have called Cox the most complete, NFL-ready defensive tackle in the entire draft.
