“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster… for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.” –Friedrich Nietzsche
Former Pennsylvania Governor and Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell might want to brush up on his Nietzsche before taking future swings against Donald Trump, after his remarks about how Trump might alienate “ugly women” from the GOP had a familiar ring for some listeners.
Rendell made the remarks in a Washington Post interviewpublished Wednesday, in which he mused about the Republican frontrunner’s chances of winning his home state.
“Will he have some appeal to working-class Dems in Levittown or Bristol? Sure,” Rendell told the Post. “For every one he’ll lose 1½ , two Republican women. Trump’s comments like ‘You can’t be a 10 if you’re flat-chested,’ that’ll come back to haunt him. There are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women. People take that stuff personally.”
Woof. Many on Twitter wanted a word with Rendell after the comments were published, including some supporters:

“I was totally taken off guard, because he’s more diplomatic and really has a very good vocabulary most of the time,” said Gwendolyn Collins, president of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women, told NBC10. “He might not have taken his medicine, or someone slipped him a mickey. It’s not like him to say something like that.”
Ehhh, actually it’s very much like Rendell to say something like that, though the former governor has not yet commented on the growing chorus of critics denouncing his remarks.
Rendell is also the host of and a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this year.
