‘Light up the Night’ at the Barnes

The Barnes Foundation is one of Philadelphia’s greatest treasures and one the world’s most impressive collections of post- impressionist art, featuring works from Cezanne, Degas, Renoir and more. While First Friday programming originated in Old City, with galleries being open to the public from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. every month, The Barnes has brought the monthly art celebration to the Ben Franklin Parkway with events like tonight’s “Light up the Night.”

The Brazilian group, Minas, will perform samba and jazz fusion followed by a discussion on Nari Ward’s “Sun Splashed,” a special exhibition running until August 22. The evening will close with an Afro-Brazilian dance and drumming performance and a special appearance by Project Capoeira, demonstrating a mix of martial arts, dance and acrobatics.

Tickets to the event include entrance to the entire Barnes collection and the Nari Ward exhibition.
