Pair of sunken cars create river mystery

Police still don’t know how two vehicles ended up in the Schuylkill River along Kelly Drive since Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, “either a Buick or Oldsmobile” was found with its front end in the river but the back end was teetering along the river’s edge. When the Fire Department cleared it as unoccupied, a private tow company hauled it away.

On Saturday, passersby noticed a 2003 Jeep Cherokee in the river near Columbia Bridge and the St. Joseph’s Prep boathouse. The vehicle was in neutral with the driver’s door open and no signs that someone had been injured, which led investigators to believe it was dumped the night before.
