Following three games in Atlanta midweek next week the Mets return to Philadelphia for the final three games of the season.
Phillies fans wake up, there’s a good chance to end the Mets’ season
The Mets are in the midst of a tight race for the NL Wild Card, hanging on in a fight against the Giants and Cardinals for one of two spots in the postseason.
There is little Phillies fans enjoy more than seeing their I-95 rivals sputter and collapse, and the Phillies have the opportunity to provide Mets fans misery over the final two weeks of the season (much like they did at the end of the 2007 and 2008 seasons when they bested New York for the NL East crown).
In Game 1 Thursday, two hot pitchers head to the hill when Adam Morgan is opposed by New York’s Seth Lugo, a hurler who is 4-1 record and 2.21 ERA since becoming a starter. Morgan has been good of late as well, allowing just five runs in his last 23 innings.
After Jeremy Hellickson starts in Game 2, the second of three 7:10 starts on CSN, recent call up Alec Asher will go up against juggernaut Noah Syndergaard Saturday.
The finale sees Phils prospect Jake Thompson opposite Robert Gsellman in a 1:10 first pitch.
And if things fall the right way, the Phils could be ultimate spoilers on the first weekend in October. Stay strong Mets fans.
