Phillies Notebook: Pat Burrell Day coming soon

Pat Burrell has been gone for four years, but the love for him has never died in this town. Now, the guy who got that key double in the 2008 World Series will be honored.

The Phillies will sign Burrell to a one-day, minor-league deal and officially retire him as a member of the organization on May 19 at Citizens Bank Park. There will be a pre-game ceremony, then the 35-year-old Burrell will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

In nine seasons in South Philly, Burrell clubbed 251 home runs (fourth in club history), 827 RBIs (eighth all-time for Phils) and 518 extra-base hits (ninth in club history). His double in that 2008 World Series led to the game-winning run.
