Philly prepares for weekend of closed streets

On Friday, authorities alerted Philadelphia-area residents to expect the closure of several key streets due to planned activities during the coming weekend.

On Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., because of the Schuylkill Navy Regatta, Kelly Drive will be closed from Strawberry Mansion Bridge to Fountain Green Drive. Drivers should use Reservoir Drive as an alternative.

Also on Saturday, portions of Center City streets will be affected by the Juneteenth Parade route, police added. Preparation for the parade will start at 11 a.m. near its starting point, Washington Square Park, where it will kick off at noon and head toward Market Street then to the African American Museum at Seventh and Arch streets. Heavy traffic should be expected.

On Sunday, the Gary Papa Run-Walk will lead to several detours around the Oval, Martin Luther King Drive and the art museum, affecting the Parkway and Logan Circle. All detours east of 20th Street should return to normal by 10:00 a.m. with the area around Eakins Oval and the Parkway open by around noon.

Drivers should expect delays in the area of the Run-Walk, but police have said there will be authorities assigned to assist motorists around the race route.
