Police trying to identify suspect who fatally stabbed, ran over man in South Philadelphia

Update: Police said April 19 that 20-year-old Yel Win has been arrested and charged with murder in this case.

Homicide investigators released images and video Wednesday of a suspect who killed a 22-year-old man by stabbing him and running him over with the victim’s own car last week in South Philadelphia.

The killing happened at around 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, in a parking lot under the elevated lanes of I-95 near the 1600 block of S. Front Street in the Pennsport neighborhood, according to authorities.

Investigators said two men became involved in an altercation, during which the attacker stabbed the man – Mang Sian Sang – in the throat. He then got into Sang’s car and drove into him, police said. The suspect fled the area in a different car, authorities said.

Medics pronounced Sang dead at the scene. He was born in Myanmar, moved to the United States a decade ago and was studying at the Community College of Philadelphia, according to an obituary.

The PPD described the suspect as an Asian man in his early-to-mid 20s with a light mustache and medium build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the department’s Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334/3335; call or text 215-686-TIPS (8477); or go to www.phillypolice.com/forms/submit-a-tip. The city offers a $20,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest and conviction in a homicide case.
