A West Philadelphia man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a transit police officer, pushing her down the stairs at a SEPTA station.
According to SEPTA, Sgt. Lynn Perrone was responding to a call of people in an unauthorized area near the Angora Regional Rail Station at 1099 S. 58th Street at about 7:15 p.m. on Monday, July 24, when she was allegedly confronted by Sorrell Groves, 37.
ABC News shared footage from a body-cam that was worn by Perrone at the time of the incident:
A SEPTA representative said that when Perrone approached Groves, he pushed the officer to the ground. Due to the incident, Perrone suffered head, neck and back injuries, and was taken to the hospital, though SEPTA said Thursday that she has been released and is recovering at home.
Groves was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, defiant trespass and related charges.
However, this is not Groves’ first arrest for an assault on a police officer. Back in 2008, Groves was charged with similar crimes after he pushed Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski after Groves was, allegedly, seen with a gun on a SEPTA bus.
Those charges were later dropped.
