Report: Eagles set to hire Pat Shurmur

It appears the Eagles aren’t quite ready to completely close the book on the Andy Reid era after all.

According to an ESPN report, the team is set to hire Pat Shurmur as its new offensive coordinator. Shurmur, who was dismissed as head coach of the Cleveland Browns after a 5-11 season, spent 10 seasons in Philadelphia as an assistant under Reid. He specializes in running the West Coast offense.

New Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, hired last week, is known for his unique spread offense. He is expected to call the offensive plays. The team isn’t commenting on the report.

Shurmur spent one season in St. Louis as offensive coordinator before joining the Browns in 2011. He was credited for developing quarterback Sam Bradford, who was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2010.

Shurmur went 9-23 in his two seasons in charge of Cleveland. The Eagles also reportedly interviewed Giants linebackers coach Jim Herrmann for defensive coordinator.
