Jay-Z could be representing an athlete near you.
The rapper is now licensed to work as a sports agent in the NBA and MLB. Jay-Z created the agency, Roc Nation Sports, a few months ago. The Sports Business Journal was the first to report the news.
Originally, it was thought he would be working behind the scenes, not negotiating contracts. But, after securing a license, he can sign players. The only snag is the small stake he owns in the Nets (less than 1-percent). He’ll have to sell that to represent NBA players.
The first NBA player expected to sign is Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant. Roc Nation Sports already has inked the Yankees’ Robinson Cano, Jets’ Geno Smith and WNBA star Sylar Diggins.
It has been widely speculated that Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson wants to sign on with Roc Nation Sports. Jay-Z isn’t yet certified to represent NFL players In fact, the agency is being investigated by the NFLPA for violating the “runner rule.”
