Six to 12 years in cop crash

A 21-year-old Northeast Philadelphia man who nearly killed two police officers in a June 28, 2009 car crash during a 12-hour drinking and drug binge was sentenced to six to 12 years in prison yesterday.

John Cusick’s vehicle slammed into Officers Richard Hayes and George Higginson while they were searching a vehicle during a traffic stop on Aramingo Avenue in Port Richmond. Hayes was thrown back into the car and lodged into the dashboard. He was in a coma for more than six months.
