Sixers beat Nets, secure playoff spot

The season appeared to be slipping away for the Sixers — and still might be — but the team qualified for the postseason following a 105-87 win Monday. The victory tied them for seventh in the Eastern Conference with the NY Knicks.

Thaddeus Young, Jrue Holiday and Elton Brand paced the Sixers with 15 points each. The team has two games remaining in this shortened NBA season. They get Milwaukee Wednesday (8 p.m.), but the Bucks have already been eliminated from playoff contention.

The NBA playoffs begin this weekend. The Sixers will begin on the road either against No. 1 seed Chicago or No. 2 seed Miami, depending how the final week shakes out. The Bulls lead the Heat by two games for the top seed in the East.
