The Sixers are now looking to avoid being known as the 2013-14 NBA season’s opening week wonder.

After starting the season a surprising 3-0, Philly has dropped two games straight, the latest coming at the hands of the previously winless Washington Wizards. The Sixers’ defense was brutal in the 116-102 home loss to Washington, as John Wall netted 24 points and Marcin Gortat recorded a double-double. Philly left wide open shooters on the perimeter as Washington netted a whopping 18 3-pointers on the night.

Through five games, Evan Turner is leading the Sixers in scoring, averaging 22.2 points per game. He dropped 24 points on the Wizards in Wednesday’s loss. Rookie sensation Michael Carter-Williams is right behind Turner, scoring at a 19.8 clip. Spencer Hawes (17.2 ppg) has also looked good in the early going for Brett Brown’s club.

The Sixers will look to get back on track this weekend against the Cavaliers, a team they will host Friday at Wells Fargo Center (7 p.m., CSN) and will see in Cleveland on Saturday night (7:30 p.m., CSN).

Old friend Andrew Bynum is slowing coming along for the Cavs and is expected to play Friday. He is also expected to hear it from the Philadelphia crowd all night long.

“I think they’ll probably boo, but that’s their choice,” Bynum told reporters. “It wasn’t my choice to get rid of me. I don’t feel bad at all … If I was not hurt, I would’ve played. That’s really the end to that story.”

Bynum has played in four games so far for Mike Brown off the bench and is averaging 5.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
