Sixers really sting Hornets

It took a while, but the Sixers are starting to play good basketball.

The Sixers have now won three of their last four games and five of their last seven after breezing past the New Orleans Hornets, 88-70, on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center.

Coming off a deflating 102-101 loss to the Boston Celtics on Thursday in which the Sixers gave up a last-second layup after leading in the final seconds, they could have easily got down on themselves. But instead, they came out with a furious defensive effort, holding the Hornets to 30 percent shooting from the field.

The Sixers (8-15) went on a 17-2 run that started late in the first quarter to take a commanding lead. The Sixers held the Hornets to just 23 points in the first half — 13 in the first quarter and 10 in the second quarter.

Lou Williams came off the bench and led the Sixers with 17 points. He shot 7-of-15 from the field. Andre Iguodala had 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. He also grabbed 10 rebounds.

“We just trying to find a good rhythm,” Iguodala told The Associated Press after the game. “The guys are starting to believe in themselves. As long as we continue to play the right style of basketball, we’ll have success.”

Elton Brand notched his eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Jrue Holiday added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Chris Paul was the only Hornet in double figures with 25 points.

The Sixers will hit the road to face the New Jersey Nets tomorrow.
