Snowfall hitting Philly already past winter records

Heavy snow falling on the Philadelphia region is expected to continue throughout the day, with five to eight inches predicted total.

The heaviest snowfall of the winter was just four inches of snow.

Philadelphia public and Archdiocese schools are closed for the day, as well as many charter schools and local colleges. Check your school for specific closing information.

The city is in a state of emergency that was officially declared by Mayor Michael Nutter at 6 a.m. All vehicles must be removed from emergency snow routes.

Philadelphia courts are closed, but other city offices are open.

New Jersey has declared a state of emergency and all state offices are closed.

Speeds are limited to 35 miles per hour on all bridges around Philadelphia and 45 miles per hour on all interstate and state highways around the city, including 76, 676, 476, and 95.

SEPTA service is still operating on a normal schedule but some service interruptions are occuring due to snowy conditions.

Check SEPTA.org to check if bus and other public transit lines are experiencing service interuptions.

SEPTA announced at 10 a.m. it will not offer special midday service on the Regional Rail under the “Early Exit” plan.

A winter weather warning is in effect for the region until 7 p.m.
