A league source has told Metro New York a move down the New Jersey Turnpike isn’t imminent for former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on Monday afternoon that Sanchez was likely to sign with the Eagles, but a league source tells Metro that while he could end up in Philadelphia, it may not be in the immediate future. in the mix.”
The source said no move for Sanchez will be done until after the owner meetings conclude in Orlando, Fla. this Wednesday.
Sanchez’s best year came in 2011 when he threw for nearly 3,500 yards with 26 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. But he experienced a dip the following year behind a poor offensive line and with few targets. He spent all of 2013 on the sidelines with a shoulder injury. He owns a 4-2 mark in the postseason, all stemming from the team’s playoff runs in 2009 and 2010.
Another league source said the Browns, where new head coach Mike Pettine would know Sanchez from his time in New York as Jets defensive coordinator, is another possibility to land the free agent quarterback.
