Two young men were killed and at least four other people were wounded in gun violence over the weekend across Philadelphia.
Police said they were called just after 11:45 p.m. Saturday to the 3500 block of F Street in Kensington, where they found a 23-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he died a short time later, according to law enforcement officials. Authorities have not publicly identified him.
A second victim was found at the corner of G Street and Erie Avenue with a gunshot wound to his back, authorities said. He was hospitalized in stable condition, according to the PPD. Officials did not provide any information about what led to the violence.
Early Saturday morning, at around 1:30 a.m., 22-year-old William J. Schmidt was fatally shot on the 1900 block of Durfor Street, near his South Philadelphia home, police said. Multiple media reports indicate that he was a Pennsylvania State University student who may have been killed over his cellphone, though police have not commented on a motive.

In Society Hill, a 25-year-old man was injured after being shot in the neck at around 10:15 a.m. inside a 9th floor hotel room at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing on Columbus Boulevard, authorities said.
An officer responding to the incident came across a 25-year-old woman in the lobby who confessed to the shooting and handed over her firearm, according to law enforcement. She was taken into custody, but the PPD has not released her name.
Police said the gunshot victim was taken to Jefferson University Hospital and is expected to survive. Detectives are looking into whether there was a domestic dispute prior to the shooting, and the woman was also evaluated for injuries sustained during a possible altercation.
Investigators said a 30-year-old man shot his girlfriend at around 1:15 a.m. Saturday on the 800 block of E. Chelten Avenue in East Germantown. The victim, a 40-year-old woman, was taken to Einstein Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her foot.
A 16-year-old boy walked into Northeast Philadelphia’s Nazareth Hospital at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday after being shot once in each leg, according to authorities. He told officers he had been shot while inside a car in Mayfair but did not offer further specifics, the PPD stated. He was dropped off in a vehicle that left the hospital before police arrived, law enforcement added.
Through June 6, 58 individuals had been murdered in Philadelphia this year, down 38% from the same date in 2025, according to police data. The total number of shooting victims is also down 36%.
