Two men died when their car crashed while being pursued by police Monday night in East Germantown, law enforcement officials said.
Officers tried to pull over a 2015 Nissan that was speeding westbound on Godfrey Avenue at around 8 p.m., according to police. At the intersection of Godfrey and 20th Street, the car hit a 2015 Honda before colliding with five parked vehicles, investigators said.
Medics pronounced the Nissan driver dead at the scene, and authorities have not provided his age or publicly identified him.
Three passengers who were reportedly ejected from the car were rushed to Einstein Medical Center. One of them, a 19-year-old man, died just before 8:45 p.m., the PPD stated. His name has not been released. The other two were listed in critical condition following the crash, according to multiple news accounts.
Officials said the 72-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Honda was hospitalized in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
Assistant District Attorney Bob Wainwright said law enforcement recovered a gun that had been inside the Nissan.
Crash scene investigators and the PPD’s Internal Affairs Division are reviewing the incident.
