Earlier this month, it was announced that DeVonta Smith and Terrell Owens have signed on to appear at the MLBx: All-Star 3-on-3 on July 12. While Philadelphia sports fans are used to the sight of the duo in cleats roaming green grass, it will be a new experience to watch them dart across the highly manicured bluegrass to make plays at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday night.
Smith joins 2008 World Series Champion Ryan Howard’s squad alongside Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) star Alyssa Britto to form one of four teams involved in the brand-new event.
The MLBx: All-Star 3-on-3 is a modified home run derby in which players earn points for home runs and defensive plays, with bonus points available during the approximately 30-minute sessions. The event is scheduled to start around 3 pm ET and will be carried live on Peacock.
Owens also links up with Jimmy Rollins, another beloved member from that 2008 Phillies championship team. Tiara Jennings will be the third member on Team Rollins this weekend. Rollins will also serve as a manager for the HBCU Swingman Classic on July 10.
The final members for the remaining two teams have not been announced. Team Victorino consists of Shane Victorino and AUSL star Rachel Garcia, while Andrew Jones and Nijaree Canady are listed as the Atlanta Braves on the official graphic.
The MLBx: All-Star 3-on-3 is just one of many events taking place around the 2026 MLB All-Star Weekend. Keep it locked to Philadelphia Sports Network and Metro Philadelphia social media channels for plenty of coverage from a star-studded weekend in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Eagles are approaching the reporting for 2026 Training Camp on Wednesday, July 28. Philadelphia’s first full practice is scheduled for July 29, and the first of three preseason games in Baltimore is on August 15.
Smith takes the reins this season as Wide Receiver #1 in Jalen Hurts’ revamped offense. The 27-year-old wideout enters looking for a fifth campaign with over 1,000 receiving yards, but it will be his first without A.J. Brown drawing attention from opponents. Makai Lemon, the 2026 Eagles first-round pick at 20th overall, will be in competition with Dontayvion Wicks and Hollywood Brown for playing time this fall.
Updated: On Friday afternoon, Jordan Mailata was announced as Smith's replacement on Ryan Howard's team for Sunday's event.
