Investigators believe they found the car involved in Monday’s fatal hit-and-run crash in Southwest Philadelphia but have yet to make an arrest.
Talyia Bernice Nesmith, 29, exited an Uber at around 3:30 a.m. along the 7200 block of Elmwood Avenue in Eastwick and began crossing the street when she was struck by a speeding driver, according to authorities.
Nesmith was knocked into a nearby parked vehicle, and medics took her to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she died a short time later, police said.
Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore, during a news conference Wednesday afternoon, said detectives zeroed in on a car that had been reported stolen in Olney hours before the crash.
They tracked the vehicle to Delaware County, and the PPD on Tuesday afternoon towed the black 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat from the area of Oak and Broadway avenues in Upper Darby Township, he added.
Vanore told reporters that investigators have not apprehended or identified a suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3180 or call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
