Two men were charged with murder Tuesday in connection with a pair unrelated shootings that occurred earlier this month along Kensington Avenue, police said.
Leroy Robinson, 61, is accused of killing 28-year-old Diamond Brown at around 6 a.m. Friday, July 26, on the 3800 block of Kensington Avenue in Juniata, authorities said.
In addition to murder, Robinson has been charged with firearm violations, reckless endangerment and evidence tampering, according to court records. His attorney could not be identified through legal documents Tuesday.
On July 12, Jean Ortiz-Collazo, 31, was shot in the neck on the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue in Kensington and hospitalized in critical condition, police said. He died of his injuries 11 days later, according to the PPD.
Investigators said 44-year-old Shawayne Burnett was taken into custody July 24, and prosecutors charged him Tuesday with murder, robbery and criminal conspiracy. The public defender’s association, which is representing him, declined to comment.
Police have not confirmed a motive in either killing. The cases remain under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the department’s Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or call or text 215-686-TIPS (8477).
Burnett and Robinson are both being held without bail.
Homicides have been down significantly in Philadelphia this year – a 38% drop compared to 2023, according to the most recent PPD data.
