Weekend crime rundown: Three people shot outside Wheels of Soul motorcycle club

Three people were shot early this morning outside the Wheels of Soul Motorcycle Club in West Philadelphia.

Police said a gunman opened fire outside the private headquarters on the 6100 block of Market Street shortly before 6 a.m. One man, a John Doe who has not yet been identified, was shot in the head and is in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

A second man, 34, was shot in the buttocks, thigh, back and shoulder, while the third victim, a 47-year-old man, was shot in the leg. Both of those men are hospitalized in stable condition.

This isn’t the first time allegations of violence have swirled around the motorcycle club.

One man was killed and a second man was hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting outside the same location in August. The West Philadelphia chapter’s clubhouse was raided by federal agents in the summer of 2011 in connection with a national investigation into drug dealing and racketeering allegations.

There is no word on a motive in today’s shooting. Police said no arrests have yet been made.

At least one man was killed and one other man was injured in two other unrelated episodes of violence over the weekend.

A 52-year-old man was stabbed twice in the neck shortly after 11 p.m. Friday night in West Oak Lane. The victim is in critical condition at Albert Einstein Medical Center following the attack on the 6500 block of Limekiln Pike, according to police.

In what so far appears to be this weekend’s lone homicide, a group of men beat a 26-year-old man to death in West Philadelphia Saturday night. The victim, who police say was assaulted on the 500 block of North 55th Street near Wyalusing Avenue around 10 p.m., died a half hour later at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

No arrests have yet been made in any of this weekend’s incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or to submit an anonymous tip by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8477), texting PPD TIP (773847), emailing tips@phillypolice.com or by filling out this online form.
